Joyful. Bold. Sexy. Funny. Elegant. Explosive. Riveting.

The Queen's Company is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the creation of innovative productions of classical plays featuring an all-female ethnically diverse company of actors. Founded in 2000, The Queen's Company has presented ten critically acclaimed productions directed by founding Artistic Director Rebecca Patterson.

At The Queen's Company classical theatre is a window into a world both old and new where people speak to live, a contemporary experience that strips away the transient veil of current issues to reveal the deeper currents that shape our lives. We believe that the universality of these stories - the foundation of our culture and theatrical tradition - should not be limited by gender or race. We wed a love of language to a love of life, weaving influences and inspiration from world cultures and history into the fabric of our classical productions, celebrating the poly-cultural American voice. Our work is known for its exquisite use of language, bold physicality, creative storytelling and artistic playfulness that interweaves music and movement sequences with the classical text. Our populist approach to the classics speaks to our varied and rich New York City community, celebrating the spirit of play and shared intimacy that brings actors and audience together. The mythic journey is a human journey that embraces the male and female in all of us.

“Why not? That's my short answer when asked ‘why all-female casts?’ What happens when we open up all the classical roles to the talents, interpretations and power of our female actors? What happens is surprising nuanced smart visceral performances, unleashing the raw theatricality of these plays and their ability to touch the depths of our soul. Simply put, all-female casting is a fresh and inspired way to do classical theatre.” - Rebecca Patterson
